Dear Parent(s),

We are starting several new units this week. We are starting a new writing piece that centers around some science standards. Our new math unit will be about decimals and place value. Our measurement test came home on Friday. We will continue to work on measuring lines since that seemed to be the standard which we struggled the most. Our social studies unit has been put on hold until after First Communion.

Reading:

• Skill- Literature circles
• The students will continue to work on looking ahead and reading accurately.
• This week we will begin new chapter books. We are working on learning how to do literature circles and discuss the book like real readers. Think of it as our own book club!

Math:

• Skill- decimals and place value
• This week we being chapter 10. Our focus will be counting money, adding money, and finding change.
• Please review your child’s test with them to see what they do well and what they need to work on. These are standards that need to be mastered for third grade.

Religion:

• Gold Book chapter 8 this week!

Phonics/Spelling:

• We have completed our books.
• We will work on looking at patterns in words.
• I have 4 groups in my classroom: adding ed and dropping magic e, adding ing, long o sounds, and bossy r words.
• We sort words and find the spelling pattern, we create new words that follow those patterns, and then we practice spelling words using the pattern.

Writing:

• Skill: research and writing
• I am combining science and writing. We will research different animals and write diary of… books.
• Look for the second edition of our newsletter coming this week!
