In the MUSIC ROOM! We have been learning some
Easter songs both religious and the standard “bunny” repertoire. We have also
been doing some singing and movement games that involve number recognition. Grades 1 and 2 Grade 2 is working hard preparing songs for First Communion.
Almost everyone already has the Tree Song memorized. Hopefully that will be
everyone soon. If your child is not making First Communion and still wants to
be part of the special day and the Tree Song, they may be part of the
children’s choir on that day, and sing with their class for the Tree Song.
Let me know so I can plan on it. It is a “dress up” occasion. First grade has been doing a game for volume control—Sorry
this only works for music class. We are also singing some Easter songs.
GRADES 3 We are forging ahead with our recorders. Some children need to
round up their music folder and sheet music. Some days we play to show
mastery and they can only use their own music on those days. Three songs
mastered earns an out of uniform pass. I have to
say, this is the best group of 3rd grade music readers I’ve ever
seen. Thay are doing SUCH a good job. Grade 4 and 5 General Music Grade 4 is working hard to complete a set of 8 recorder songs
with ascending levels of difficulty. They are VERY GOOD instrumentalists! We
are also trying out some instruments to see what we will be playing for band
next year. Grade 5 General Music is learning to perform drum music. We are
also watching The Sound of Music. Grades 6, 7 and 8 General Music Grades 6 and 7 is
currently watching The Music Man then we will move on to Fiddler on the Roof.
These are the two shows I am considering for next year. I want them to have
an informed opinion. Grade 8 is just finished watching The Soloist. This
is a gutsy presentation (true story) dealing with homelessness and mental
illness. Our final assessment was a very interesting discussion on the
Christian and social issues this movie brought up. We will be spending the
next three weeks working on the stage for the musical. They need to bring
clothes that can get painted and not be ruined. .

LITURGICAL CHOIR These are the performances
outside of school time for Liturgical Choir for the 2nd semester: April 25th-10:30 AM Sunday Mass—arrive 10:10. Alone. Very dressed up/
First Communion. May 9th- 8:30 AM Sunday Mass, arrive 8:15—Mother’s Day

BEAUTY Villagers and Narrators: We’re going for medieval. Hopefully all elements can be found at a 2nd hand store. Boys can wear neutral or soft colored pants with shirts and/or vests. Get shirts that are too big so the cuffs can be folded under and elastic can make the sleeves look gathered and “blousy.” If no vest, they should wear a wide belt over the shirt. Girls can create a period look with blouses, skirts aprons and laced vests. Multiple skirts also create a nice effect. Each Villager should have appropriate accessories (Egg Man: basket of eggs, Aristocratic Lady: gloves, hat and handbag, etc) All colors should be soft and neutral. 4th and 5th graders—table ware: These are some ideas. Start with navy pants and a navy long sleeved t-shirt or silverware all in gray. Salt and pepper: use i/2 in foam covered with metallic fabric to wrap around child. Cut arm holes and simply lace together in the back. Spray paint Frisbees and attach elastic chin straps for the tops.(A corkscrew, vase or pitcher can be similarly made.) Dinner plates: can be cut from foam core (front and back) and connected with shoulder straps like a sandwich board. Paint with the china pattern of your choice. Flatware (silverware) can be cut from foam core and attached to the actors head with a headband over the monochromatic gray or silver base outfit. Please let me know ASAP what your child will be. Beast/Prince: Dark pants and shirt, ornamented vest (tapestry, brocade) large boots of a dark color, his cape will be black (I have the cape). Belle: classic peasant girl with full skirt and white apron. Bright color (blue?) Change to gold ball gown—I have some left from Cinderella if needed. Maurice: peasant shirt (see villagers) eccentric plaid knickers (the louder the better) large vest with pockets for his many gadgets, Tall argyle socks worn with black dress shoes or all black sneakers with homemade attached “buckles.” Contrasting color scarf—needs to be memorable. No more haircuts—we need something to put the gray on. Gaston: should radiate EGO! Bight red vest that is form fitting (I will sew in some foam “muscles”, collared shirt in a contrasting color, wide belt, a pair of high boots if possible. LeFou: Knickers and tall socks, shirt and bright colored jacket. Large ridiculous bow “tie” at the collar. Boots if possible. Cogsworth: Solid color knickers, tall white socks, full white shirt with lacey cuffs, dressy vest, I will get a wig and we will make the clock here. Lumiere: Dark knickers and period vest (brocade?), full sleeved shirt, Candles: start with leather work gloves, add a one pound coffee can covered with white felt to the fist of each glove, Attach a ribbon flame to the top, and adorn with glue gun glue to look like melted wax. Cover the cuff of the glove with tapestry fabric for the base of the candle. A larger candle might be added as a hat if you wish. Mrs. Potts: Fabric: Old fashioned flower print like old china. Attach fabric to a knee height hula hoop (base of the teapot) and gather the neck with a beautiful bow. The spout should be sewn in for one arm while the sleeve for the other arm should curve down to the waist for a handle (this can be a regular sleeve and Sarah will take care of the curving… Wear a frilly white blouse under the pot and use fringe jewels etc to adorn this grand lady! When the costume comes off a skirt that matches the pot can Velcro on with the white blouse—add a white apron and it will look like one piece. I have white aprons. The hat (top) needs a fluted edge (see picture) and a pompom for the top. Any not wide brimmed straw hat can be the basis for the top. Chip: Use a simple button down shirt and black (navy) pants as the base of the costume. The cup should coordinate with Mrs. Potts. Use a small hula hoop at the chest. Cover with fabric which is gathered at his knees. Use elastic straps (suspenders) to hold the hoop up and add a cardboard handle to the side. When he becomes human just take off the cup. Madame de la Grande Bouche: The body of her costume is a cardboard appliance box adorned with drawers, cupboards and knobs. Add bits of jewelry, shiny fabric,(I have lots) and lace popping out of her drawers. When she becomes human the box is removed to reveal a beautiful dress. I may have one that will work for her. I am getting the Viking hat. Babette: Basic costume long sleeved jersey and skirt of the same dark color She will need an over skirt of nylon net to match the skirt which has feathers ( from a boa?) sewn to the overskirt form the knees to the floor. She will also need wrist circles of feathers and some feathers for her hair. When she becomes humans the overskirt and wristlets and hair ornaments come out and she has a duster in her hand. Monsieur d’Arque: Black pants and shirt and black hat. Black shoes with homemade metal buckles. I have a black cape for him. Wolves: grey or silver long sleeved shirts and long pants. Baseball caps with wolf heads made of fun form. I will ask Mrs. Laham about helping with the heads or we will buy them. White cotton gloves dyed gray. I know were to find these if you can’t locate old ones. I will provide fur tails. Statues: Silver sport pants (breakaways) I have welder’s coats. We’ll cover the hands and feet with silver cloth and socks spray painted silver and am looking for someone to work on knight’s helmets. Old beggar woman/Enchantress: Beautiful elegant dress for enchantress-hair in an updo. Beggar woman will cover this with a hooded cape and mask if necessary. NEEDED: If you read any of the above and have parts to loan,
it will save us money. If you can sew even a little, there are several little
sewing jobs which won’t be too burdensome if shared among several people. Thanks! |
