Our 100th day of school is
Friday, January 28th. We will
celebrate our 100th day with many activities. (More information will come next week.) One of our traditions is to wear 100th
day shirts. So you have some homework to
do over the next few weeks! J Students (of course
parents should help) should create a shirt with 100 items on it. In the past, students have put 100 buttons,
ribbons, jewels, etc. on their shirts.
Please be as creative as you can be!
The one item I ask that you do
not use is stickers. They fall off
of the shirts throughout the day and are almost impossible to get off of the
floor. On January 28th we
will all wear our 100th day shirts to school!
I have a few house
keeping items. With the wonderful snow
we have received, many students have been wearing boots to school. If your child wears boots to school, please
be sure that they have tennis shoes to change into wear they get to the
classroom.
Also, I know the snow has made getting
to school some days difficult, but please be on time to school. As a reminder, after 7:50 your child is
considered tardy. Last quarter
Kindergarten had a very large number of tardies. Being on time to school helps to ensure that
your child begins their day on a positive note!
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation on these matters and
please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have questions.

What’s Happening This Week?
Reading/Spelling/Phonics
This week we have spent a lot of time
talking about the characters in stories we read and working on making
predictions. I’ve also been working on
Reading Assessments. These are taking
much longer than expected, so next week we will focus primarily on getting
these assessments finished so that we can make the most of our instructional
time.
Sight Words: We will be reviewing the following sight
words: the, to, and, a, I, you, it, me,
in, said, for, up, look, is, go,
little, down.
Math
This
week we began talking about addition.
Students have worked with connecting cubes and bears to begin to
understand that adding is taking two groups of objects or numbers and putting
them together. This week, we will
continue working with connecting cubes and bears but we will begin to look at
numbers with addition instead of just objects.
Writing
This
week students will work to write the letters Ww and Zz; learn their sounds and Tucker signs, and recognize
words that begin with the /w/ sound and end with the /z/ sound. These are the last two letters we need to
learn to write!
