We are well on our way to a fantastic year in Kindergarten! Students have spent a lot of time working on
following directions and learning rules and procedures for Kindergarten. Fall Einstein Daze have
been moved to Oct. 9 and 16. Student led
Conferences will begin Sept. 28th.
Look for a sign-up sheet to come home this week.
I’ve spent the past two weeks assessing students on letters and
sounds in order to form flexible groups.
Students will be in 5 groups (named with colors) based on their language
needs. Your child’s weekly sheet will
tell which group your child will be in.
This week groups will work on the following skills:
Green group:
reviewing all letters and sounds, learning Tucker signs (signs made with
left
hand to allow for multi-sensory learning) for the sounds,
and working on CVC (consonant-
vowel-consonant words)
Purple Group: reviewing sounds for the letters a, m, s;
learning Tucker signs for those sounds, and working on CVC words
Blue Group: reviewing sounds for the letters a, m, s; learning Tucker signs for
those sounds, and working on CVC words
Yellow Group:
reviewing sounds for the letters m and a, learning the sound for s,
learning Tucker signs for the sounds of m, a, and
s; working on CVC blending
Orange Group: identifying m, a, and s; reviewing and
practicing m, a, and s; learning Tucker signs for m, a, and s
Each group will also work on learning
the following sight words: I, am, you. Sight words are words that are seen often in
reading materials. These words should be
automatic for students to read when seen.
This week in Math
students will continue to work on counting to 100. We will also finish learning how to write
numbers 1-10.
Students have been learning how to make the sign of the cross and
the Our Father. We pray the Our Father
as a school every morning.
Our theme this
month is ‘Magnificent Me’. Students are
learning to identify their first and last name, birthday, address (house number, street name, city, state), and phone number. We are
also working on being kind to one another and appreciating one another’s unique
qualities and abilities. Students will
end this unit by making a Magnificent Me Book that we will share with one
another and then bring home to share as a family. Please send a family picture to school by
Sept. 21 for your child’s Magnificent Me Book.
